Vitus Evans Appointed BGLC’s Executive Director

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Betting, Gaming & Lotteries Commission announce the appointment of Mr. Vitus Evans as Executive Director effective May 1, 2017.

 “Vitus Evans is recognized as a business and management leader in Jamaica and brings three decades of experience in corporate governance and  law to his new role as Executive Director of the BGLC,” said Clovis Metcalfe, Chairman of the BGLC. “He will lead the team at the Commission as they fulfil the mission to merge and regulate Jamaica’s Gaming Industry by using best practices in order to establish and maintain the confidence of all stakeholders and the public in an Industry plagued with risks including money laundering, while securing high levels of compliance by operators in this sector.”

 Mr. Evans serves on multiple boards including being Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cocoa Industry Pension Fund, Deputy Chairman of the Agricultural Investment Corporation, and a Director of the Competitiveness Company and the Cocoa Industry Board. He is a past President of the Jamaica Exporters’ Association.

Before joining the BGLC, he was CEO of the Jamaica Agricultural Development Foundation where his expert skills as a negotiator have been pivotal in gaining joint project financing with many international funding agencies such as the European Investment Bank, the Inter-American Investment Corporation, the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Commonwealth Development Corporation.

The scope of Mr. Evans experience extends beyond Jamaica as he is also Vice President of the West Indian Sea Island Cotton Association based in Barbados and has been consultant to the European Union to develop the Trade and Investment Framework to Strengthen Regional Collaboration among Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories.

Mr. Evans is Honourary Consul of St. Lucia to Jamaica. He is a  graduate of the University of Hertfordshire and was called to the Bar in the United Kingdom and Jamaica.
