Dr. Velton Gooden appointed BSJ's Executive Director

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chairman of the Standards Council of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), Philip Armstrong has announced the appointment of Dr Velton Gooden as the organisation's executive director, effective June 1.

The BSJ, in a statement on Friday, outlined that Dr Gooden has had a long-standing career in the fields of quality assurance and quality management, and brings to the post a wealth of knowledge and experience.

In his early career, he was employed to the then Jamaica Bureau of Standards as senior standards scientific officer and has subsequently held several senior posts in the private sector.

Dr Gooden is a certified food scientist and management consultant; he has held posts at the Caribbean Broilers Group as operations manager and head of quality and exports. He had a stint at the Grace Kennedy Group as quality assurance manager and was director of quality assurance and audit services at the Technological Solutions Group.

“Dr Gooden is regarded as a strategic thinker and a result driven professional. These attributes, along with his experience and expertise augurs well for his expected contribution to the BSJ in its evolved role as a facilitator of industry,” the statement added.
