Welcome to the BSJ's Standards Portal

A standard is an agreed way of doing something. A standard can apply to goods, services or systems, they ensure safety, quality, consistency and are fundamental to trade.

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica is the national organization responsible for the development, adaptation, revision and adoption of standards and encourages the usage of these standards by the various stakeholders.

Standards

Standards are everywhere. Though we may not be actively aware of their importance and impact, standards are critical to a well-functioning society. Standards ensure our health and safety. They make our lives easier by making sure the products and services we use are reliable and consistent. They make trade possible by offering cross border predictability, which is crucial particularly to net importers, such as Jamaica. Standards make businesses more efficient while protecting our environment. Standards affect our lives in many far-reaching ways.

Standards Development Work Programme

BSJ's Work Programme was first published in April 1996 and is published twice each year, in April and October. The Work Programme contains:

  • A list and status of draft standards which are presently being developed/adopted/revised

  • Classification of the drafts according to the International Classification for Standards (ICS)

  • International standards considered in the development of the draft standards

  • A list of standards published since the last publication of the work programme

A complete list of all standards published by the BSJ is contained in the Catalogue of Jamaican Standards which is published every two years.
