Bureau of Standards Jamaica
Mr. Rose holds a BSc (Special) degree in Chemistry and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies. He has specialized training in Total Quality Management (Sweden) and Total Quality in the Food Industry (Malaysia) as well as being a trained Lead Auditor (ISO and HACCP). Mr. Rose first joined the staff of the Bureau of Standards in 1979 where he worked as a Standards Scientific Officer rising to the post of senior standards scientific officer and Head of the Food Unit after which he left to join the Private Sector in 1986.
During his first stint at the BSJ, Mr. Rose became the first person to extract Hypoglycine-A from the Ackee fruit in a Laboratory outside of the University as well as the first person to be skilled in the use the now popular High Pressure Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) machine in Jamaica. He was later an IADB/UNDPconsultant to the BSJ where he assisted in training others in Hypoglycine analysis and extraction from Ackees.
He rejoined the staff of the Bureau of Standards in 2001 as the Manager of Standardization .
